It generally does hurt to some extent and largely depends on the location of your tattoo and your personal pain threshold. Patients often cite that it’s a similar sensation to an elastic band being rapidly pinged against your skin.
Pricing is subjective and largely depends on two key factors: the size of your tattoo and the type of tattoo. A typical small tattoo may require approximately 4 – 6 treatments for removal. In contrast, larger professional tattoos will often necessitate more treatments than smaller amateur tattoos, and the duration of each treatment may also be longer. Laser tattoo removal may carry a higher risk of hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation for individuals with darker skin tones, primarily due to the use of shorter wavelengths in the procedure. As a result, eligibility for the treatment may be limited in such cases.
The area must be protected with an application of ointment and gauze for the first 48 hours, and then protected from sun exposure to prevent changes in pigmentation between treatments.
Avoid sun exposure or sunbeds for 6 weeks before, during, and 4 weeks after treatment. Use SPF 30+ or protect the treated area to prevent permanent skin issues. Exposure to sunlight or sunbeds could result in permanent hypopigmentation of the treated area.
It can take up to 8 months to two years to remove your tattoo as treatments are done with gaps of 8 weeks between appointments. The time frame varies for each client and their tattoo, as different factors such as ink type and colour, skin type, and age and location of the tattoo play a role.
We usually recommend 6-8 treatments for laser tattoo removal but this can depend on the ink colours and depth of ink that has been used for your tattoo. If you have a new tattoo, you must wait a minimum of 3 months before booking a consultation and patch test.
